Welford Bowling Club have recently bought and moved into a newer, bigger premises with a growing number of members. We aim to be inclusive to all members and potential members of our bowling club no matter what age, gender or disability. We have been working closely with Disability Aids UK to ensure everyone can get involved in our bowls games and tournaments.
Bowlers Of All Ages
We are blown away by the growing demand for membership at our bowling club. With access to weekend tournament, daily games, weekend parties in our clubhouse and evenings in the bar for quiz night!
We are welcoming to bowlers off ages. We are a member of the English Junior Bowls Association which means we get our junior team (aged 8-17) involved in regional tournaments. We also have teams who qualify for the Regional Bowling Championship Tournament that happen four times a year. As well as this we have daily tournaments that run 10am-2pm and 3pm-7pm Monday through Friday every week. And finally, on weekends all our greens are available to play on from 10am-6pm. We have adults from 18 right through so their 90s who get together every week (some members even play everyday) to socialise, meet new friends and play their favourite sport.
Disability Aids UK
Disability Aids UK is a charity who aim to promote iinclusivity within the community. They raise money to give those with disabilities the equipment they need to go to work, play a sport or just be able to become more independant. We brought in representatives from Disability Aids UK to help make sure our club is accessible for all as much as possible. Here is what we have implemented in our club to ensure everyone can enjoy the sport :
- A fully equipped disabled bathroom with hand rails and wheelchair access
- Wheelchair ramp access to the clubhouse
- Spare walking sticks
- An extra wheelchair for the club
- Antislip surfaces
- Golf cart to drive people with little mobility to further away lawns
- Disabled access to all parts of our new club
Promoting An Active Lifestyle and Friendly Community
At Welford Bowls Club we understand that some people can feel lonely so we encourage those who do to join our community. As we have mentioned before we are inclusive to all! We host a number of social events throughout the month including, but not limited to:
- Wednesday Night Quiz Night
- Saturday Night Charity Theme nights in the clubhouse
- Pilaties class in the clubhouse every tuesday and thursday
